After returning from our desert excursion filthy and tired we made our way back to our guesthouse only to find that there were no rooms available and that we would not be reimbursed for the third night that we paid for. After arguing with the owner for hours into the night we got him to give us 5 dollars back and he allowed us to stay in an extra roach infested room for the night. The room was stifling hot with a small window facing toward the main (incredibly noisy) street. We boarded a train the next morning headed for Rabat, Morocco even more bedraggled than the day before. We were stinky and sweaty from the night before but we were glad to be done with Marrakech. Don’t get me wrong, we had a really great experience there, it was just exhausting having people hassling us all of the time, and being incredibly hot on top of it. We loved the experience and we are glad that we went.
Rabat- (phew!). The capital city of Morocco was very welcoming and familiar to us because it was much more metropolitan than Marakech . The streets were not filled with people, and the pace of the city was much, much slower. The city was very European and a lot less touristy, we loved it! When we arrived we took our much needed showers and a bite to eat from this cute little café across the street from our Hotel.
Rabat is close to the ocean, so the breeze in this city was wonderful; we had not felt a good sea breeze in a long time. When a fresh breeze passes across my face, it reminds me of home, this was definitely what we needed. Up to this point it was go, go, go and we needed something that was more familiar to us. Even though we were still in Morocco, Rabat had a very different feel we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
