Driving through the desert is hot!

Breakfast in Morocco is a popular event; Fresh breads, honey, various jams, and oodles of tea. We were up at dawn to continue our expedition into the Sahara, although not hungry we knew we should eat.

Driving through this region of morocco is very interesting, the landscape is baron and rocky. Then in an instant you see the striking deep green of palm trees and plants lining a village. The villages are typically small and are surrounded by a great mud wall. Mud houses are built within the walls and can tower to several stories high. The villages are surrounded by wheat for bread, alfalfa for the donkeys and cattle, date palms, and usually a river lined with bamboo that they use to roof the houses. The houses are built apartment style and are considerably large in order to house entire families, including several generations and extended family. Families seem to stay close in morocco.

We were taken on a tour of one of these small cities and ushered to a traditional carpet loom. Our guide then explained that this was a local cooperative where local women make traditional hand made carpets and sell them. He offered us tea and then tried to sell us some carpets, after a long awkward sit in the room we were finally allowed to leave and head back on the road.

Along our journey our driver would make stops at various places and we would shuffle out to take pictures. We didn’t really know where we were but we seeing a lot of beautiful things.

This one deserves special attention
